The Truth About Natural Cleaning

Carole Pagan
© 2007

We all know that a clean home is a healthier home. You want
to get rid of dirt, germs, dust, mites, and pollutants and have
a clean, comfortable, healthy home.

On the other hand, harsh cleaning products are pollutants
themselves.

So now we have "Natural" cleaning products. But do they
work?

OK, here it is - in one sentence. Natural cleaning is fine if
your home is already clean.

Not what you were hoping for? Sorry.

I mean, let's face it - if natural cleaning worked all that great,
there wouldn't have been a need to develop stronger cleaners,
would there? No one would have spent the extra money if what
they were already doing worked so fine.

Believe me, I've tried all the vinegar, baking soda, bleach and
even dryer sheet solutions. What a waste of time and energy.

Now I will say that vinegar is a great disinfectant, just not a
very good cleaner - except maybe on windows.

Bleach is great for removing stains, mold, and mildew, and
disinfecting, but you can't get it on your metal or it will pit it.
You don't want to get it on your clothes, or towels, or your
pretty shower curtain. You really should wear gloves when
you use it. And the fumes can be awful.

Bleach, or products containing bleach, should only be used in
certain circumstances, but not for regular cleaning.

Rubbing alcohol does work great on chrome, but that's
about it.

Otherwise, the rest of your kitchen pantry cleaning advice
is a bunch of hogwash in my book, unless you happen to
like scrubbing. I don't.

What about commercial natural cleaners like Method,
Caldrea, or Melaleuca?

These products work great for maintaining. They'll do a fine
job of keeping your house clean, once it's clean to start with,
and you keep up with it and don't let build up happen. I
personally love Method products. They smell great. It's
like aromatherapy while you clean.

So, if you want to use natural cleaning products in your
home on a regular basis, you first have to bring out the
big guns and get it clean, top to bottom.

Then, you have to stick to with it on a regular basis so you
don't have a build up that will require bringing out the big
guns. Does that make sense?

Now I'm sure that sounds like a lot of works, but the truth is,
when you have a great system, you'll spend way less time
cleaning.

In my e-book, Secret Confessions of a Clean Freak, I show
you how to get everything clean in the first place, without
killing yourself doing it - and then I give you an easy system
to keep it clean with very little effort. If you'd rather not
spend a lot of time cleaning the house, make sure to pick
up a copy. You'll be amazed at how clean you house can
be with such little effort ;-)
